In our attempt to survive and eventually thrive in our new culture, a typical conversation will go like this:
Us: "Wo yao zhe ge." [I want this one.]
Fruit Lady: "Na ge?" [That one?]
Us: "Yes! I mean due." [Correct]
Us: "Duo shao?" [How much?]
Fruit Lady: "Shi kuai." [10 quai]
Us: "???"
Fruit Lady: "Shi kuai!" [With the hand symbol for 10]
Us: "Okay." [Still confused because it sounded like she said "si quai," which is 4 quai...]
The most important thing to note is that fruit has been acquired! Despite the language barrier, we have learned through His strength to achieve simple tasks like buying food at the market, ordering meals at restaurants, asking if there is milk in a dish, and paying for our phone bill. Apparently we need to learn non-food vocabulary next!

First meal in China. We struggled to order the food, but thankfully, the menu had pictures.
Temple of Heaven stairs... so many plants!
Beijing was fun to visit. Now, we're happy to finally be living in our smaller city, Dujiangyan
